We will have a very busy week this week in Pre-K. We will begin our Lenten Journey.
Tuesday we will discuss the meaning of Lent (to make new, spring). We will watch and read the book The Selfish Giant by Oscar Wilde. In the story the giant is very selfish but when he sees how bad this is, his heart begins to melt and he is kind and generous. We will try to fast from what we know is wrong. We will try to be like Jesus. As the sunflower, follows every movement of the sun, so will we follow Jesus.
Wednesday we will talk about the signs of Lent and discuss how the palms used on Palm Sunday are used to make ashes for Ash Wednesday. We will make crosses to which we will add a mosaic tile piece for each day in Lent that we can show that we are following Jesus,
Thursday we will continue our discussion on Lent and how we will change during Lent and how many things change and grow, we read the story, Titch by Pat Hutchins. We will begin to make a book about new life and change [an on going project during this season].
Friday we will make pretzels and talk about how a pretzel is a fasting food, free of sweets and how long ago it was the Lenten food. The shape of the pretzel is how people (long ago) folded their arms in prayer.
My focus throughout Lent is to discover how in life all things grow and change. Our physical and environmental life is so deeply woven into our Spiritual life with Jesus. We will discover and learn the steps Jesus took to the Cross and His Resurrection.
****For one of our projects we will need egg shells, please remember to save your eggshells, after you crack them, please rinse them and allow them to dry and send them in.
Thank You, Brenda Albright
